How we check
Open when every SD511 road-condition segment for SD 240 (Wall to Cactus Flats, which includes the Loop Road through the park) reports a passable condition (Dry/Normal or Wet, or winter conditions shown as "open with winter conditions") in a file updated within 6 hours, and no SD511 closure, NPS alert or recent SDDOT release reports a closure. Closed or Partly open when SD511 marks segments Closed or posts a closure on SD 240. Unknown when an NPS closure alert conflicts with SD511, for "No Travel Advised", or when data is missing. We check official sources about once a day; see our method.
